Grants – a VERY breif overview

Introduction here

Let’s dive deeper into the grant process…

Funding applications can be daunting, especially for your first stage production. Back then, I had no idea what I was doing! This breakdown outlines what I need right now for bringing Version 2 of ‘On Being Vocal‘ to life, hopefully giving you a roadmap and sparking your curiosity about the “behind-the-scenes” magic of funding.

I am extremely excited about “On Being Vocal” and how it’s growing. I have amazing ideas on how to develop the show that require some additional resources.

In order for Sarah Parkin, who you’ll see popping up all over my instagram grid and stories, is the only performer of this micro-opera, to be ready to perform, she has to learn the new material, join in meetings where we discuss together about character development and how the new music written will fit into the overall show.

Then we need to develop the new version of the show so the new material feels like an integral part of the story and show.

We will also need more film to accompany the live show. The film playing on the projector is made by Catherine Valve

And of course, I need to sit down and write, think of answering all these questions of incorporating new material and try out different ideas.

All these things take a substantial amount of time throughout many days. This is work for each individual of us and all of us together.

Apart from creative costs, there are rehearsal costs, we will need to hire a room to practise and put both element – film and live performance – together

People are travelling, a venue needs to be hired and a different other equipment also needs to be hired like a projector and good quality speakers for a big room.

The grant proposal will clearly define our artistic vision and explain why this production is essential. We’ll delve into the unique aspects of the show that make it compelling and resonate with audiences.

Here’s the secret: Your passion for the work is what makes it special. By articulating your dedication, you inherently convey why others should care.  Additionally, consider highlighting elements that will attract audiences, like the play’s themes, comedic or dramatic elements or whatever you feel is innovative.
